For accountants, CA firms and tax practices

Task management software for accountants and CA firms

An accounting practice does not run out of tasks; it runs out of track of them. The same returns, accounts and audits come round for every client, every month or year, and the questions are always the same: what is due, who has it, what is stuck, and was it billed.

MyTask is task management software built for that work, for chartered accountants, CS and tax practices and accounting firms. A task here is not a line on a to-do list: it is a client's service for a period, with the stages it passes through, the person responsible at each stage, the documents it is waiting for, the hours spent on it and the invoice it ends in. That is what makes task tracking in an accounting practice work: the status of a task tells you the status of the client.

How MyTask handles accounting task management

You set up your own services once. After that the recurring tasks raise themselves, find the right person and report back on their own.

  1. Your services, stages and checklists, four levels deep

Services, sub-services and sub-sub-services named by you, with a checklist of steps inside each. Bookkeeping, a GST or VAT return, year-end accounts, an audit: each task carries its own stages, so a status means the same thing to everyone in the office.

  2. Hundreds of recurring tasks from one screen

Raise a period's work for the whole client list at once, and check any of it in a preview before it is made. Or let MyTask create and assign the tasks for a service and period on a date you set. A client whose fees are pending can be blocked so no new task is raised for them.

  3. Assignment that follows the work

A task can go to whoever worked on that client's job last time, or to a fixed person or role once it reaches a set stage. Every change of hands is logged on the task, and the person it lands with is notified.

  4. Deadlines, priorities and work on hold

Priority tasks and tasks on hold stand out on the listing, tasks due in the next seven days have their own report, and follow-ups, appointments and meetings are scheduled against the client with a log of what happened before.

  5. Everything about a task, on the task

Each task holds 20+ pieces of information: its status, pending issues, emails sent from it, documents received for it, hours posted, its cost and any outstanding invoice, all printable to one PDF. Clients' uploads raise an alert on the task they belong to.

  6. A partner's view without asking anyone

Dashboards by service, by staff member and for the whole office show what is completed, pending, overdue or stuck. A daily email sums up yesterday across the office: tasks, time, billing and follow-ups.

  7. From task to time to invoice

Staff post billable and non-billable hours against the task, so its cost sits beside its fee. Completed tasks are billed from the same record, and any task that was neither billed nor marked free appears in the unbilled task report.

What MyTask is not

It is not a general-purpose project or to-do tool for any kind of team: it is built around clients, services and periods, the way an accounting practice works. It is not accounting software and holds no ledger, and it does not file returns with any tax authority; filing stays on the portals, and MyTask tracks the task that leads to it.

Questions chartered accountants and accountants ask about task management

Can recurring tasks be created automatically?
Yes. A service can raise its tasks on a set date for a given period, or the firm raises a whole period's tasks for every client at once from one screen, with a preview before anything is created.
Can each staff member see only their own tasks?
Every user has their own dashboard with the tasks allocated to them, their to-dos and calendar. Managers and partners see their team or the whole office, by service or by person.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. The MyTask app for iOS and Android carries the same tasks, and staff mark their attendance from it. Firm settings stay on the web.
Is it only for chartered accountants in India?
No. It is used by CA, CS and tax practices, and by accounting firms outside India, where each office keeps its own currency and financial year. The GST and income tax portal checkers are India-only add-ons that a firm abroad simply does not turn on.
Can we try it before buying?
Yes. There is a 7-day free trial for up to 6 users with no card, or a free walkthrough on your own practice with our team.
